How I feed my body, how I feed my soul

Author: Dr. Michelle Durkin on 24 September 2019

Last week I talked about the importance addressing both the body and the soul if your goal is to be healthy.

You have to do both.

It is only when I started doing both that I feel like I am getting younger every year instead of older. I’m also getting lots of compliments on how great I look…one of them might have even been from you, so thank-you.

So how did I do it? And where can you start?

Today I am laying out a cheat sheet that worked for me.

Body:

  • every good food plan starts with veggies
  • 1/2 your plate veggies at each meal; the rest depends on your constitution; work with your naturopath (or me if you don’t have one) and nail down what works for your body by getting the right blood work done
  • good sleep, eight hours a night; read my #appleaday about good sleep
  • movement, again figure out what works for your body; I see a personal trainer once a week for weight lifting/resistance training, I go to yoga at least once a week, and then the rest of my activity at least twice a week depends on the season; I will also walk or bike to work
  • RMT that does advanced massage techniques similar to osteopathy (you may have met him in a previous post)

Supplements:

  • fish oil (currently OmegaAvail liquid by Designs for Health)
  • probiotic (currently Ultra Flora Balance by Metagenics)
  • greens powder (currently Greens First by Promedics)
  • vitamin D (currently Liquid Vitamin D3 by Metagenics)
  • medical food (currently Ultra GI Replenish by Metagenics)
  • adrenal support (currently Adreset by Metagenics)
  • seasonal: immune formula (currently ACES+Zn by Cytomatrix)

Soul:

  • journaling
  • meditation
  • shaman
  • Reiki practitioner
  • yin yoga
  • Immunity to Change mapping course at Harvard University
  • counseling
  • taking one month off a year
  • asking for help
  • saying no to projects or people that were emotionally draining (believe it or not I had seven people/projects on my list)
  • Books: Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much, Mind Platter, Tools of Titans, Immunity to Change, The Four Agreements

Now I would love to hear from you! Which one of these strategies would you like to implement consistently? Leave a comment below and I'll be back next week with another edition of Doctor as Teacher Tuesday!
